The Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition Director, Dr Blessing Vava was yesterday the 28th of October 2025 denied entry into Tanzania and deported.

Dr Vava was on a solidarity mission to meet with a number of frontline CSOs and social movements who have been under severe repression from the increasingly authoritarian regime of Samia Suhulu ahead of a sham, one horse race electoral ritual in Tanzania today.
Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dr Vava’s passport was immediately confiscated by immigration officials and had to spend hours of harrowing interrogation and profiling in some confined rooms at the airport.
After hours of interrogation he was advised that he is not “welcome” in Tanzania as he is a “security risk” and will be deported back today, the 29th of October 2025.
No further explanation was given despite efforts to understand how he could be deemed a security risk and yet he had committed no crime.
The Human Rights Defender was then taken to a holding cells within the parameters of the airport where he spent a night in detention without any blankets.
We condemn this barbaric and unfortunate act which in our view is an affront to human rights and the dignity of the African child and goes against the values of Ubuntu and Pan Africanism as envisioned by the late icon Julius Kambarage Nyerere.
We are disturbed by the continued harassment and deportations of human rights defenders, and in particular election observers whose work is not criminal but to promote human rights, good governance and democracy.
